Detailed Morocco Desert Trip
Day 1: Fez→Ifrane→Midlet→Erfoud→Rissani→Sahara Desert
Departing from the Airport or your Hotel/ Riad in Fez, leave the spiritual capital of Fez for the Berber Town of Midelt through the mountains and cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. Along the way your private tour driver will stop in Ifrane. a charming ski resort and in Azrou, an important craft center specializing in cedar woodwork. Also, you will have many free stops to enjoy the scenic views and feed the incredible Barbary Apes. After the Zad pass (2178m / 7146 feet), you will arrive at Midelt for lunch break. In the afternoon, you will descend towards Erfoud and Errachidia through the Ziz Valley, dotted with palm trees and muddy Ksours. Continue on to Merzouga. Leave your vehicle on a 4WD journey across the off-road routes to get to the Berber camp in Erg Chebbi Sahara Desert. After tasting special tea and refreshment, you will set off your camel trekking journey, one person per camel, for about 2 hours across a sea of golden dunes, enjoying the magical sunset. Enjoy the stars, the moon, the drum Music party over the fire and spend an unforgettable night at private Bedouin style tents under an immense starry sky.
Day 2: Sahara Desert→Rissani→Todra Gorges→Dades Valley
Wake up early to witness the incredible sunrise in the “middle of nowhere” from the high dunes, Nature’s incredible light show of sunrise over ever-changing colors of dunes. After breakfast at the Berber bivouac site, you will depart towards Rissani, most of whose inhabitants are still living within the 18th century Ksours. 10 minutes away are the ruins of Sijilmassa, recognized by the World Monuments Fund, established in 757A.D, until the 11th century it was on the exit point for the important camel caravan trade from the Sudan, Mali and Ghana. Here you will pay a visit to the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty, which rules Morocco to this day and walk around the famous Donkeys park. After tasting the delicious local Berber Pizza and with spicy hot tea, continue now westwards to the oasis town of Tinejdad and the start of the Route of 1000 Kasbahs in the magnificent Dades Valley. We arrive at the small, delightful town of Tinghir, located at the mouth of the fabulous Todra Gorges, overlooked by a Glaoua Kasbah and which town boasts of the oldest Jewish cemetery in Morocco to set out up the Oued Todra for some 15 km into to the deepest, narrowest and most spectacular part of these further wonders of Mother Nature to explore this remarkable canyon and relax in the refreshing water of the Todra Gorges River. We continue driving to Boumalne Dades situated at the mouth of the Dades Gorge to venture up between the wide, high limestone cliffs with their strangely shaped erosions and green vegetation. Here you will conclude your today’s journey with a sumptuous dinner and overnight at your Kasbah in Dades Valley.
Day 3: Dades Valley→Kelaat Magouna→Skoura→Ouarzazate→Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah→High Atlas Mountains→Tizin Tichka Pass→Marrakech
After breakfast, your journey continues west along the Valley of Dades until you reach Kela’a M’gouna, famous for its fertile fields of roses, used in the cosmetics industry, roses are cultivated to make rose water and rose oil. Continue west to the popular filming desert hub, Ouarzazate, nicknamed the Hollywood of Africa. Visit the charming Kasbah of Taouririte declared, a World Heritage Site, and join a movie Atlas studio tour to discover how movies, you might have seen, were filmed in Ouazazate and in the nearby desert regions. On now north to the magnificently exotic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou (Declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO). This fortified village that sits in this extensive valley near the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains held an important position along the Caravans’ trade route linking Sahara Desert and Marrakech. Wander the narrow alleys of this majestic Kasbah and Climb up to the old Granary. In this spectacular area, many renown historic and new films have been shot such as the Lawrence Arabia, the Mommy , the Gladiator, Babel, the Game of Thrones…Lunch on the site and trip to Marrakech ascending the High Atlas mountains and through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, stop near the top of the pass to enjoy the vista of Berber villages and Mountains. Notice the dramatic change in climate and scenery, from arid and barren to humid and verdant, as you continue to descend towards the red city through the north side of the mountain range. Upon arriving to your final destination, Marrakech, Morocco-Travels team will assure your drop off at the Hotel/ Riad or the Airport (RAK).
