Detailed Sahara Desert Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech โ†’ Telouet โ†’ Aรฏt Benhaddou โ†’ Ouarzazate โ†’ Skoura โ†’ Dades Gorges

Depart in the morning from your hotel or riad in Marrakech and drive through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi nโ€™Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Stop along the way to photograph traditional Berber villages and winding mountain roads.
Continue to Telouet Kasbah, once the palace of Thami El Glaoui, then travel through the scenic Ounila Valley to Aรฏt Benhaddou. Explore this iconic fortified village, perched on a hilltop and still home to a handful of families. Climb to the upper ruins for panoramic views of palm groves and desert landscapes.
After lunch, drive through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Rose Valley to reach the Dades Gorges. Dinner and overnight at your kasbah or hotel.

Day 2: Dades Valley โ†’ Todra Gorge โ†’ Erfoud โ†’ Rissani โ†’ Merzouga

Travel east toward the Sahara. Stop in Tinghir to admire the Todra Oasis, then explore the impressive Todra Gorge with its towering canyon walls. Continue to Erfoud, known for dates and fossils, before reaching Rissani for lunch. Here, you can taste Madfouna (Berber pizza) and visit the lively market and traditional donkey parking area.
As you approach Merzouga, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise on the horizon. Enjoy a warm welcome with mint tea at your kasbah. In the evening, hike a nearby dune to watch the sunset, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the kasbah.

Day 3: Sahara Desert โ†’ Gnawa Village โ†’ Dayet Serji โ†’ Camel Trek โ†’ Erg Chebbi Dunes

After breakfast, set out in a 4ร—4 to explore the Sahara. Visit fossil-rich areas, remote villages, and sections of the former Parisโ€“Dakar Rally route. Travel through the black volcanic desert and share tea with a nomadic family.
Continue south to Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa music, where youโ€™ll enjoy traditional drumming and dancing. Stop at Dayet Serji Lake (seasonal), home to migratory birds such as flamingos.
In the afternoon, relax at the desert camp before riding camels into the dunes at sunset. Enjoy dinner, music around the campfire, and a night under the stars in your private, fully equipped tent.

Day 4: Erg Chebbi โ†’ Ziz Palm Oasis โ†’ Middle Atlas โ†’ Ifrane โ†’ Fez

Wake early to watch the sunrise from the dunesโ€”one of the most memorable moments of the trip. After breakfast at the camp, depart toward Fez.
Stop to admire the Ziz Palm Oasis, then continue through Berber villages and the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing cedar forests near Azrou. Visit Ifrane, often called the โ€œSwitzerland of Morocco,โ€ before continuing to Fez, one of Moroccoโ€™s oldest imperial cities. Arrival marks the end of your Sahara Desert adventure.
